Retail Appraisal Value vs Resale Value
Sometimes a customer will come in with a piece of jewelry to sell expecting a certain amount because of what they paid at retail or a retail appraised value.
In addition to the cost of materials such as gold and diamonds, the manufacturer, the wholesaler and the retail store each have profit built into the price you pay. The retail or appraised value includes the profit.
Resale value is based on current market prices for pre-owned items including precious metals, gemstones, fine watches, other components, etc. It does not include the profit markup that an appraisal value will show.
